Looking and Feeling Good

New York City is often referred to as the "Dining ... Shopping ... cultural and Entertainment Capital of the World," partly because of the personalized services provided by everyone from busboys to couture clothiers. For time-pressed travelers, here on business or pleasure, in need of primping and preening—with¬out leaving the comfort of their hotel suites—add "Convenience" to the list. One of the few fashionable owner-operated hair salons in the city—run by Federico Calce who is famous for his unique talent with a pair of scissors and loyal celebrity clientele—offers daily in-room, 24-hour services, which include haircuts, color, highlights, styling, manicure, pedicure and makeup ap¬plication. While resculpting a client's long, unruly mane in his sunny Upper East Side salon, Federico pauses and says, "This space is a warm and comfortable environ¬ment. It feels more like someone's living room than a typical rush-in, rush-out salon. I'm not interested in turnover, but in the quality of our services. And if the client can't get here, my team will come to him other whenever and wherever, we're at your service, just ask the hotel's concierge to make the in-room appointment."
